What's in your Chili?

With the cold weather and snow (eek!) here, we've all been dreaming about a big pot of chili, so that's this what we made this weekend.

  • approx 1lb of ground beef
  • 3 large cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tiny can tomato paste
  • 2 cans kidney beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • chopped peppers
  • sliced mushrooms
  • 1T cumin
  • 1t chili powder
  • 1t garlic powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1T Worcestershire sauce

Step 1:
Brown ground beef until cooked through (can be done ahead of time and stored in the fridge or freezer)

Step 2:
In your pan of cooked ground beef add the chopped pepper, mushrooms, garlic powder, dash of salt and worcestershire sauce, cook on medium until the peppers and mushrooms are softened

Step 3:

Add beef mixture and all remaining ingredients to your crockpot, stir well, then cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Family Thoughts:

This is our chili recipe, kids don't like onions, no one likes tomato chunks, and kids don't like it too spicy either, so this is what works for us.  We serve it topped with shredded cheese and sour cream. What's in your chili?

  1. It's definitely chili season! Since I don't eat beef, I make mine with ground chicken. I also add in red peppers, celery, onions, frozen corn, black beans and kidney beans and sometimes rice. Think I'll add it to my menu for next week!

  2. Oh nice chili recipe thanks for the post. I do ours with turkey and chicken

  3. I have never made homemade chili so I may start with yours. It sounds so good and healthy. Thank you for this recipe.
