Slightly Sweet Biscuits with @ThreeFarmers Oil

My 8 year old daughter and I came up with this recipe when we were having my parents over for tea one weekend. She wanted to bake them a special treat, so we put this recipe together.

"Blueberrilicious" Sweet Biscuits

My daughter added the "Blueberrilicious" part to the title - I LOVED it, so I had to share it here with you!

Slightly Sweet biscuits with a light and fluffly consistency!

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook time: Approximately 12-15 minutes
Yield: Approximately 12 biscuits

Ingredients:
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup yogurt
  • 1-4 Tbsp milk (use to make desired consistency)
  • 1/4 cup oil (we used Three Farmers Camelina oil for the health benefits)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup blueberries (we used frozen)

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Mix dry ingredients together with a whisk.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix wet ingredients.
  4. Combine wet and dry and stir just until combined.
  5. Gently fold in blueberries.
  6. Bake for approximately 12 minutes minutes or until toothpick comes out clean in the middle.

Family Thoughts:

My five year old son and I made these biscuits together. I love spending time with my children in the kitchen. We enjoyed these biscuits "hot off the press" with some soup for dinner. They are light and delicious. My children commented that they missed my cheddar cheese biscuits. I could take out the blueberries and put in the cheese next time.

NOTE: Camelina oil has a smoke point of 475°F! Due to its Vitamin-E content, Camelina oil's shelf life is significantly longer than other cold-pressed, high-Omega-3 oils, easily lasting between 12 and 24 months. The Three Farmers oil is produced in Saskatchewan, which we LOVE! BEST of all, Camelina oil is very high in Omega-3. That in combination with its high smoke point makes it an ideal oil for my family to use.

Three Farmers has sent us some oil to "experiment" with in hopes that we can create a few recipes for them!

  2. these sound delicious. I hadn't heard of Camelina oil before and found that very interesting, especially since it has a high smoking point and a long shelf life.
