Copy Cat Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits

I love to bake, that is absolutely no secret! I have finally perfected a recipe for Cheater Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits that I am excited to share with you today.

I'm not a fan of fish or seafood, so once in a while when my family heads to Red Lobster, the one part of the meal that I REALLY look forward to are the warm biscuits that arrive at the table.

These biscuits can accompany any meal and they also make an excellent snack. I enjoy them best fresh out of the oven or re-heated the next day.

These biscuits are the homemade version of the biscuits that are served at Red Lobster.

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Yield: 12-15 biscuits

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached or regular)
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup butter, cold, cut into chunks
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (we prefer old cheddar because it has more flavour)
  • 1/2 - 2/3 cups milk
  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley flakes (optional)

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and garlic powder. Whisk together to combine thoroughly.
  3. Add the butter and using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut butter into flour until it is coarse, pea-sized.
  4. Add oil, grated cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup milk. Stir together. Keep adding milk a bit at a time, just until the dough is moistened and no longer dry and powdery. (Shouldn't be sticky, just moist enough to hold together).
  5. Drop approximately 1/4 cup portions of the dough onto an un-greased cookie sheet using an ice cream scoop or large spoon.
  6. Bake for 15-17 minutes.
  7. While biscuits are baking, melt 3 tablespoons butter in a small bowl (if using a microwave, watch closely as butter will splatter). Stir in 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and add parsley, if desired.
  8. When biscuits come out of the oven, use a brush (I use a high heat silicone basting brush) to spread the garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter.

Family Thoughts:

We often make these biscuits to accompany our favourite Potato Soup. In fact, this has become our traditional Christmas Eve family meal.

These biscuits also freeze well and we have been known to pull them out of the freezer for a quick, throw together lunch!

  11. I love biscuits, but have never tried Red Lobster biscuits. However, I hear friends commit to going to Red Lobster's certain promo/specials, specifically for the biscuits and constantly wonder what the big deal is!? I am not a seafood fan, so I might just have to try this recipe at home and bring someone over for a taste test.
